Chocolate Kissed Strawberry-Crisp Apples

Comments comments (7)

It is Spring right? New Jersey must not have gotten the memo! I can't help but to bake based on the weather. Cold and rainy again. I wanted to make something comforting today. I first thought of Strawberry-Apple Crisp. I was just going to make a classic Apple Crisp and add some fresh Strawberries. But then looking at my bowl of apples I thought why not make cups!  I then googled to see if this has been done before. Why do I bother? EVERYTHING has been done ha! Ok so what kind of twist can I put on it? I'll add strawberries and mini chocolate kisses :D  Oh the possibilites are endless. You can fill these with just about anything so be creative!

2 apples ( I suggest red delicious )
1/2 cup rolled oats
3 tablespoons butter, diced
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
3 tablespoons light brown sugar
2 tablespoons flour
2 strawberries
handful of mini chocolate kisses
Lemon Juice

Preheat oven to 350
Fill a baking dish about 1/4 the way up with water and set aside. In the meantime cut the tops off of the apples. Scoop out the inside. Careful not to scoop too far down we are replicating cups. Rub lemon juice over exposed area of the apples. Chop the strawberries and fill the apples. Then sprinkle a few chocolate chip morsels over top. Set aside. In a small bowl combine the flour, brown sugar, cinnamon and butter. Mix well together until nice and crumbly. Press half the mixture on top of one apple and repeat process for the other one. Place them in the water in the baking dish and bake for 25 to 30 minutes. Or until nice and tender. Serve with caramel or chocolate sauce, ice cream and or whipped cream!  Enjoy these tasty treats :)
